Dr. Vance Plumb from the University of Alabama at Birmingham discusses the use of ablation for atrial fibrillation. Atrial Fibrillation is the most common heart arhythmia. It can cause symptoms such as fast heartbeat, irregular pulse, chest pain, shortness of breath, and dizziness. In an ablation, you find the electrical activity in the heart that is causing the abnormal rhythm, then use radiofrequency energy to burn that area.
