In a study published in the annals of Internal Medicine, the supplement Chondroitin did not significantly help joint pain. Although there were no significant side effects of the supplement, it did not appear to have benefit.

The injection usually includes a local anti inflammatory with the cortisone. The joint pain associated with arthritis can be improved for months after a cortisone injection.
