Dr. James Voglino, an orthopedic surgeon in Miami, FL, discusses the use of cortisone injections. These are commonly used in the treatment of arthritis. The injection usually includes a local anti inflammatory with the cortisone. The joint pain associated with arthritis can be improved for months after a cortisone injection.
Do your joints crack? Dr. Tyler Cymet discusses what the cause of joint cracking is, and whether or not it damages your joints. He says that cracking of the joints when you are using them can actually be helpful in preventing arthritis, although it is mostly the movement of the joint that is helping. So he recommends regular exercise.

In a study published in the annals of Internal Medicine, the supplement Chondroitin did not significantly help joint pain. Although there were no significant side effects of the supplement, it did not appear to have benefit.

Dr Thomas Sculco, from the Hospital for Special Surgery, discusses how to avoid arthritis. Obesity and being overweight increases the strain on the joints. So controlling body weight can slow the progression of arthritis. Regular exercise can also slow the progression.
How to diagnose arthritis. X ray is the benchmark for diagnosing arthritis. MRI can be a helpful additions, as well as blood tests to look for systemic problems such as rheumatoid arthritis, or lupus. But xray is the gold standard to look for arthritis.
