Dr. Matt Soroush, a urologist, discusses benign prostatic hyperplasia, or BPH. This is the term used for enlargement of the prostate, which is very common in men as they age. Symptoms of BPH include urinary urgency, urinary frequency, and nocturia-having to urinate in the night. A PSA and an exam are necessary to rule out prostate cancer. Medications can shrink the prostate slightly, and improve the symptoms. Other treatments include TURP-trans urethral resection of the prostate.
