My husband has sleep apnea and has been wearing a mask at night that seems to help him. He is sleeping better, and is less tired during the day. No one ever recommended this base of the tongue reduction. Is this something that can be beneficial in addition to the mask that he wears at night?

This surgery is only offered if CPAP fails or is poorly tolerated. Additionally, patient needs to be evaluated for anatomical candidacy. More information can be found here: http://homepage.mac.com/changcy/botcoblation.htm
