Breast MRI can be used in addition to screening mammogram in high risk patients. Patients are felt to be at high risk if they have a lifetime risk of 20 -25% of breast cancer. Women with the BRCA gene mutation, or a first degree relative with a BRCA gene mutation are felt to be at high risk. MRI guided biopsy can also be helpful.
