A new study looked at the type of exercise and how it affected management of diabetes. Combining aerobic exercse and strength training had the most effect on diabetes mangement. Can people with diabetes drink alcohol? If patients with diabetes drink, it should only be in moderation and they should avoid drinks that are high in sugar content. Because of the liver effects, low blood sugar is a common problem in people with diabetes who drink alcohol. So a small snack before bedtime may be advisable.
Patients with diabetes can have multiple problems. With high blood sugar, (frequently in people with high blood pressure) the small blood vessels in the eye can swell and blood and cause vision problems and blindness. It is also important to control blood pressure.
How diabetes can effect the eyes. Diabetic retinopathy is a disease in which high blood sugars cause the blood vessels in the retina to swell and bleed. Bleeding in the retina can cause blurry vision, and floaters, or floating spots, or even blindness. Diabetic retinopathy is the leading cause of blindness in people less than 65. Controlling your blood sugar near normal can help. Frequent eye exams is important.
