GERD can be made worse by certain foods that can either increase the acidity of the stomach, or weaken the sphincter between the esophagus and stomach. Patients with GERD- gastroesophageal reflux disease must avoid chocolate, fattty foods, caffeine, peppermint, alcohol, and tomato products. Onions, garlic, mustard, Vinegar, carbonated drinks, and juices can also cause symptoms.
