Diverticulitis: Dr. David Larson, a colo-rectal surgeon at the Mayo Clinic discusses diverticulitis. Diverticulosis is a condition of outpouching of the colon. Diverticulitis is an infection of these pouches. Symptoms include abdominal pain, fever, nausea, vomiting, constipation, and diarrhea. Treatment is with antibiotics, but some people require surgery. Risk factors include age, lack of exercise and a low fiber diet.
