Dr. Abraham Jacob, a neurotologist at the Ohio State University, discusses a new study that is looking at the herbal supplement melatonin for the treatment of tinnitus, which is chronic ringing in the ear. Tinnitus, or ringing in the ear is usually associated from hearing loss.
Dr. Alvin Katz of the Manhattan Eye, Ear, and Throat Hospital discusses the causes of hearing loss. Frequently exposure to noise at their job can cause hearing loss. Usually people with hearing loss have tinnitus in addition, which is a ringing in the ear.
Dr Howard Torman discusses tinnitus, or ringing in the ears. Tinnitus is usually associated with some degree of hearing loss. Chronic noise exposure can cause hearing loss with tinnitus. People with sensorineural hearing loss will also have tinnitus. There is no cure for tinnitus, but backround noise can help.
Non surgical sinus treatment. Some people with allergies will have chronic sinus problems. For these people avoidance of allergans will help. Allergy shots can also be effective. Antihistamines and nasal steroids can also help. If there is an infection in the sinus, antiobiotics may help. Nasal saline sprays can also be helpful for symptoms.
Dr. David Eisenman, a otology/neurotology specialist at Univ. of Maryland. Hearing loss can happen from a many causes. Chronic noise can cause hearing loss, especially occupational exposure. In children, chronic ear infections, with fluid will rarely cause hearing loss. There is a wide variety of treatment for hearing loss, including surgery, hearing aids, and cochlear implants.
Are antibiotics always needed for an ear infection: Dr. Allison Brindle, a pediatrician at the Cleveland Clinic, discusses how children with ear infections are best treated. She says that sometimes it is best to wait and watch children without antiobiotics, with careful monitering by a pediatrician. Even if there is fluid in the ear, causing ear pain, antibiotics may not be indicated.
