Middle ear infections are very common in children. Persistent fluid in the middle ear can lead to hearing loss, so it is important to recognize these infections. These occur in children mostly due to eustacian tube dysfunction. You should see an ear specialist if there is any hearing loss or delay in speech. Many of these infections are treated with antibiotics, but some children may need ear tubes for treatment.
Tympanostomy or ear tubes are a common treatment in children. For kids with recurrent ear infections, chronic ear pain, hearing loss after ear infections, tubes are a good way to chronically drain the fluid from the middle ear.

Nasal wash for treatment of post nasal drip. Dr. Melissa Pynnonen, the co director of the Michigan Sinus Center, discusses the nasal wash and the conditions that can be helped by this treatment, including post nasal drip. It can be more effective than medications for symptoms such as nasal congestion, stuffy nose, post nasal drip, and symptoms of allergies.
Ear infections are common in kids. Middle ear infections commonly occur when the eustacian tube is not working correctly which causes fluid build up in the ear. The symptoms of a middle ear infection are tugging on the ear, drainage from the ear, fever, ear pain, and difficulty sleeping. Sometimes these infections require antibiotics.
Are antibiotics always needed for an ear infection: Dr. Allison Brindle, a pediatrician at the Cleveland Clinic, discusses how children with ear infections are best treated. She says that sometimes it is best to wait and watch children without antiobiotics, with careful monitering by a pediatrician. Even if there is fluid in the ear, causing ear pain, antibiotics may not be indicated.
Sinus Infections: Dr. Michael Osborne discusses sinus problems, including allergies and sinus infections. Congestion can cause fluid build up in the sinuses, which can become infected. The symptoms include facial pain, headache, mucous production, with yellow or discolored discharge from the nose, post nasal drip and runny nose. Sinus infections can be viral or bacterial.
