Electrical Cardioversion: During this procedure, pads or paddles are placed on the chest wall and an electric shock is given to the chest wall to try and restore a normal heart rhythm. Cardioversion is different than the higher dose shock given to people in cardiac arrest-called defibrillation. Cardioversion is commonly used in atrial fibrillation to restore a normal heart rhythm.
