An overview of Gum Disease. Gum disease in it's early stage is gingivitis. Once it affects the bone and hard structures of the mouth, it then becomes periodontal disease. To prevent gum disease, good dental hygiene is important. Regular brushing and flossing and visits to the dentist are important. Fluoride mouth rinse and toothpaste can also help.
