Dr. Magee, I am also a physician and I couldn't agree more. Our healtcare system needs an overhaul. Insurance companies should not be able to mandate what physicians do, so they can make more profit. On the other side, physicians have to take more responsibility in keeping the costs down, while still maintaining quality. Physicians know how to do it. We have been hamstrung by the constant threat of lawsuits. One crucial piece of reform must include reform of medical malpractice. Physicians should have sovereign immunity. This would allow physician to practice good , cost efficient medicine. This would allow cases of clear cut malpractice, but would not allow the cases that are different variations in the practice of reasonable medicine.
