Dr. W. Scott Melvin at Ohio State University performs surgery for GERD, or heartburn, through the mouth. This endoscopic surgery can repair the lower esophageal sphincter which allows acid to reflux back to the esophagus when it is incompetent. It will improve the symptoms of heartburn, and possible decrease the risk of esophageal cancer.
