Urinary Tract Infections Part-How do women get UTI's. UTI's occure mostly in women. Most frequently the bacteria that are in the rectum track into the vagina, and then to the bladder. Drinking water can decrease the number of UTI's as can cranberry juice. Symptoms of UTI include burning, and pain with urination, and increased frequency of urination. Martha B Boone, MD.
