When the blood sugar is high, the lens of the eye can swell, causing blurry vision, which is reversible. Diabetics are also at risk for cataracts. The most worrisome change in the eye is when diabetes affects the blood vessels, causing weakened vessels that can bleed, sometimes causing retinal detatchment. Laser treatment can be helpful to prevent bleeding in the retina.
