Description:

Irritable Bowel Syndrome causes crampy abdominal pain, bloating, both diarrhea and constipation. There are no diagnostic test for IBS - irritable bowel syndrome, so it is a diagnosis that must be made by ruling out other diseases. The cause of IBS is not clear, but the symptoms in children are real and cause significant problems. There are treatments for the specific symptoms, but no treatment for the underlying disease. Anxiety clearly plays a role, and must be treated in children with IBS.
