Description:

The liver processes nutrients, produces proteins, stores sugars, and controls hormones, sugar levels, and cholesterol levels. It also filters unwanted substances, and helps the body fight infection. Cirrhosis is a disease in which the normal liver tissue is replaced with scarred tissue, and the liver is unable to perform its usual function. Chronic alcoholism, and hepatitis are the most common causes. Video courtesy of Blausen Medical.
