Medications for heart failure: When the heart is too weak or to stiff to pump the blood adequately, fluid will back up and build up in the lungs and legs, causing shortness of breath, and leg swelling. THe medicines commonly used for heart failure, including digoxin and ACE inhibitors, and beta blockers can help treat the symptoms. For refractory symptoms a biventricular pacemaker may be necessary.
