Dr Barry Powell discusses melanoma. Melanoma is a rare skin cancer, although it is becoming more frequent. Risk factors include people with fair skin, red or blond hair and blue eyes.and a family history of skin cancer. Also people with frequent sun exposure, especially sun burns early in life. It usually appears as an irregular, growing mole. Treatment is usually surgical. The thinner the melanoma, the more likely to cure a melanoma.
