Dr. Harris Cohen discusses Otitis Externa, which is an infection of the outer ear canal. Ear wax helps protect the ear canal, but infection can occur in this canal. Risk factors include excess moisture in the ear from swimming or sweating, swimming in contaminated water, removal of ear wax, insertion of a foriegn body-such as Q tips, trauma, and certain skin conditions. Symptoms include ear pain, itching of the ear, or a discharge from the ear.
