Cardiac Cath. with PTCA. Cardiac catheterization is a procedure that uses xray dye to look at the heart arteries to look for blockage in the arteries. Cholesterol rich plaque grows in the inner lining of the arteries and starts to block the artery. This causes decreased blood supply, called ischemia. An angioplasty or PTCA, can open these blockages using a balloon and an intracoronary stent. Video courtesy of eMedTV.com
