Abdominal pain is common in children. It is important to distinguish functional abdominal pain, which is usually centered around the belly button, from abdominal pain from more serious problems. THe more serious problems that can cause abdominal pain in children include gastroenteritis, stomach ulcers, pancreatitis, gallstones, appendicitis, kidney stones, intussusception, and intestinal obstruction.
