The causes of prolapse is due to weakening of the muscles of the pelvis because of childbirth, aging, excessive weight gain, chronic coughing and heavy lifting. Symptoms include a fullness in the pelvis, incontinence of urine or stool, and seeing the prolapsed organs. Cystoscopy is usually performed. A pessary is a temporary treatment and surgery can be curative.
