Pelvic Organ Prolapse refers to any organ that prolapses, but prolapse of the bladder is the most common organ. The causes of prolapse is due to weakening of the muscles of the pelvis because of childbirth, aging, excessive weight gain, chronic coughing and heavy lifting. Symptoms include a fullness in the pelvis, incontinence of urine or stool, and seeing the prolapsed organs. Cystoscopy is usually performed. A pessary is a temporary treatment and surgery can be curative.
