Preventing blood clots: Dr. Alexander Turpie, From McMaster University, discusses blood clots and how to prevent blood clots. DVT- deep venous thrombosis is a blood clot in the legs, which commonly occurs after surgery, as well as in people taking long trips without stretching. Treatment includes blood thinners. The standard treatment is coumadin, but there are newer treatments to prevent the clots.
