Dr. Marcus St. John discusses the risk factors for coronary artery disease. Coronary artery disease (CAD) is the disease process which causes fatty plaque build-up or blockage in the arteries which supply the heart with blood. These blockages can cause symptoms, such as chest pain, and also put you at risk for a heart attack. The risk factors are age, gender, family history of CAD, diabetes, hypertension, high cholesterol, smoking, obesity, and sedentary lifestyle.
