The stage refers to the amount of disease at the time of diagnosis of breast cancer. Stage 1 is a small tumor less than 2cm, Stage 2 and 3 refers to larger tumors that may involve the lymph nodes, and Stage 4 is metastatic breast cancer, when the cancer has spread to other organs of the body.
