Symptoms of Head and Neck cancer: Dr Mark Prince of the Univ of Michigan. There is usually pain at the site of the cancer as well as referred pain. Tumors around the voicebox will cause hoarseness, and tumors in the mouth will commonly cause a non healing ulcer. People may only notice a mass in the neck from associated lymph nodes.
