Thrombocytopenia is a condition that means low platelet count. Platelets are the cells in the blood that help you to form clots when they are needed. If there are not enough platelets, the major problem is bleeding and bruising. The normal platelet count is 150,000 to 350,000. When the platelet count is below 10,000, spontaneous bleeding can occur. THere are many causes of thrombocytopenia including chemotherapy, heparin induced, and ITP. Video courtesy of BLausen Medical.
