Dr Magee I could not agree more. As a health care provider there is nothing more infuriating than patients going to pick up their medications (probably for heart disease and COPD- the 2 most common smoking related diseases) and buying cigarettes at the same time. People have to take responsibility for their own health. All of this talk about health care reform is based on a premise that the American people will take part in their own health. Although it is not popular to say and you certainly would not hear the politicians say it, I am not sure that the American people are up to that challenge. With rates of obesity, and child obesity sky high, and diseases caused by smoking costing us billions, we need a fundamental change in the way people approach their own health.
