Description:

If a person with a stroke or their family recognizes the symptoms of stroke early there are treatments that can limit the extent of the stroke. One treatment is with the "clot busting" medication TPA. If given within 3 hours of the onset of stroke symptoms, it can limit the neurologic deficit from a stroke. Catheters can also be used to go into the artery in the brain restore blood supply to the brain. This is only used in some strokes and must also be used early in the stroke.
