Virtual Colonoscopy is called CT colonography. It is the use of CT scan to visualize the GI tract just as a colonoscopy does. This scan requires the same prep as a regular colonoscopy. But the imaging is done with a CT scan rather than direct visualization using colonoscopy. It can be a reasonble screening test when the prep is done well. However, if you are found to have a polyp at the time of virtual colonoscopy, you will then require a standard colonscopy.
