Dr. Susan Shurin, of the NHLBI, discusses Von Willebrand's disease. This is an inherited disease that causes bleeding. In this disease you are missing a protein that helps with clotting-the von willebrand factor. Bleeding can be after a surgery, a trauma, or even a heavy menstrual bleeding. There are transfusions to replace the missing factors to prevent or stop bleeding.
