Cholesterol is produced in the liver. High cholesterol is very common with the American diet. Cholesterol becomes elevated with a high fat, high cholesterol diet, but can be high in people with a lower fat diet, who produce too much cholesterol in the liver. Dr. Steven Bergmann, the Chief of Cardiology at Beth Israel Med. Ctr., explains what is cholesterol.
