Although a site can accomplish its goals merely with text and links, the addition of physician videos is a unique and easy way to not only make your practice stand out, but also provide another avenue for patient education.

Robert A. We will also provide suggestions on how to create a video that will benefit you and your patients. Next month, in the second article, we will discuss editing techniques to give your video a professional look.
What's in it for you?

For the practicing urologist, videos serve a number of purposes. The receptionist making an appointment for a new patient can refer patients to one or more videos to give the patient a virtual tour of the office and meet the doctors and the staff before he arrives at the office. The site also can be used to educate patients about clinical topics (procedures and conditions) before or after the visit. Topics that you frequently discuss with patients one or more times a day or several times a week are the most appropriate. Finally, if your video is well trafficked, it offers an opportunity to attract new patients.
Videos made easy

One need not be a tech whiz to make and post an Internet video, thanks to sites like YouTube ( http://www.YouTube.com/) and VideoMD ( http://www.VideoMD.com/). VideoMD is a free, user-friendly site where physicians can add their own videos. The site's staff reviews submissions in order to ensure accuracy, and also allows for the creation of online communities for physicians and their patients.
