Dr. Timothy Patton, a dermatologist at Univ. of Pittsburgh, discusses the best ways to treat and prevent acne. Mild to moderate acne can be treated with topical medications, gels, washes, and lotions for the skin. For severe cases, systemic treatment can help. The tetracycline antibiotics can help, birth control medications sometimes help, as well as spironolactone. Isotretinoin is used in refractory cases.

My mother used to say that you should use your own urine to get rid of acne. I recall doing this when I was a teenager. No one ever speaks about it. This could be an old fashioned remedy that works. Acne is terrible and can occur in an adult as well. Skin care is the most important thing. My wife takes great care of her skin and has introduced me to her skincare line.

2 of my kids have acne, I do not know if the treatment is the same for children as it is for adults.
