Dr Alvin Katz, Surgeon Director of the Manhattan eye, ear, and throat hospital discusses treatment of hearing loss. Exposure to loud noise, inflammation, infection, and a viral infection, or spasm of a blood vessel can cause sudden hearing loss. The underlying medical problem has to be treated. Many times steroids are used if people present early in the course of sudden hearing loss.
